20 women, 5 teams, 30km and non-stop talking ALL the way! That’s how we did our epic 2019 Melbourne Coastrek adventure along the beautiful coastline of the Mornington Peninsula. The organisers of Coastrek, ‘Wild Women on Top’, declare the aim of their event is not to ‘beat’ other hikers – it is instead to be seen as a ‘challenge’, empowering women to push themselves outside their comfort zone. Unfortunately my competitive girls did not get this memo… ha
‘Race Day’ started with a coffee or two at Little Rebel Roasterer, then backpack water bladders were primed, high vis vests were adorned and shoelaces tightened. Each team attacking the 30km with gusto and commitment, through early rain, rugged terrain, breathtaking water views and eventually sunny skies – it was mind blowing! A wonderful result for all was achieved with happy faces beaming on top of the podium! The chorus of many stating – “That was much harder than Adelaide, but we did it!”.
Wayne, our bus driver, was the hero after the race, delivering us directly to ‘Peninsula Hot Springs’ where we were ensconced in fluffy white robes and able to sink into the steaming thermal healing pools to soak our aching muscles. Then home to our beautiful accommodation to be wined and dined by our Private Chef – Guy from ‘Some Guys Food’.
The next morning we woke up to our ‘Play Day’ breakfasting at ‘Trofeo Estate’, shopping on Ocean Beach Road, Sorrento, lunching at ‘Port Phillip Estate’, wine tasting at ‘Rare Hare’ and walking amongst the incredible sculptures at ‘Port Leo Estate’. Ending our day at home again, this time in our PJ’s in front of the fire – pure bliss.
Sadly all good things come to an end and we packed our luggage full of happy memories and funny stories, feeling a little bit proud of ourselves, and headed home. PERFIT!
